Innovation starts from the heart. Edwards Lifesciences is the global leader of patient-focused innovations for structural heart disease. With millions of patients served in over 100 countries, each team makes a meaningful contribution by improving patient outcomes and discovering lasting solutions for unmet patient needs.

We have a current opening for an Environmental Health and Safety Cluster Lead, Germany, Austria, Poland & MEA. This role is office based in Garching/München, Germany.

How you will make an impact:

  • Providing expert guidance and operational support, together with associated administrative responsibilities, for Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) across Edwards Lifesciences entities in the Germany, Austria, Poland and the MEA region, with oversight of EHS across offices, field activities, and other operations.

  • This role is responsible for driving EHS regulatory compliance, injury prevention, risk management, and adherence to global standards across low-risk office environments and medium-risk field environments, including customer-facing activities that require specialized EHS controls.

  • The role leads and administers the local ISO 14001:2026 Environmental Management System, supports successful recertifications as part of the broader regional approach, and contributes to sustainability-related business needs by supporting customer requirements and tenders in partnership with internal stakeholders.

  • This role requires regular on‑site presence in the country of residence to effectively support operations, build trusted partnerships, and respond to EHS risks in real time. A hands-on approach is needed, as administrative tasks are an essential part of the role.

Environment, Health & Safety (EHS)

  • Ensure EHS regulatory compliance with country applicable legislations

  • Identify EHS impact/hazards, conduct risk assessments, review and improve control measures, and lead management of specific risks. Update risk matrices and support emergency preparedness.

  • Conduct EHS onboarding for employees and contractors and deliver EHS training to individuals and groups.

  • Manage and administer critical radiation protection equipment, including lead aprons, protective eyewear, and other site-specific safety requirements

  • Oversee the dosimetry program, including administration of dosimeters, monitoring exposure readings, escalation of unusual results, and initiation of corrective actions

  • Report and respond to incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions

  • Support employee initiatives linked to EHS

  • Develop a strong understanding of business operations to ensure practical, value‑added EHS solutions

  • Serve as EHS advisor to Country Leadership

  • Engage with external EHS stakeholders, including consultants, authorities and auditors

  • Fulfil reporting requirements around packaging waste, batteries, and WEEE.

Environmental Management System (EMS) – ISO14001

  • Lead and run the local ISO 14001:2026 Environmental Management System, including operational duties (like conducting Management Reviews, Objective Setting, KPI reporting, employee awareness activities)

  • Build strong partnership with relevant local stakeholders and regularly communicate to all employees

  • Ensure continuous improvement and success in internal and external audits

  • Contribute to the regional EMS with its multi-site certification approach

Sustainability / ESG and Tender Support

  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to understand current and upcoming customer requirements around sustainability (Environment – Social – Governance, ESG), including industry associations and customers

  • Partner with internal stakeholders in answering those requests, esp. related to tenders

What you will need:

  • Strong administrative skills, including accurate recordkeeping, document control, scheduling, and coordination of training, PPE, and dosimetry-related activities

  • Strong knowledge of EHS regulations, ISO 14001, and risk management principles

  • Strong project management and organizational skills

  • Strong communication, documentation, presentation, and stakeholder-management skills

  • Ability to influence across functions and organizational levels without direct authority

  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently in a dynamic environment

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety, compliance, and quality

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related systems

  • Ability to develop practical, business-relevant EHS solutions

  • Ability to train, coach, and support employees and contractors on EHS related topics

  • Professional proficiency in German and English, with the ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally in an international business environment

  • Ability and willingness to undertake occasional business travel abroad

What else we look for:

  • A strong willingness to learn. We will provide further training in Environmental Health and Safety, and the opportunity to gain relevant certifications. Candidates with a current focus and passion around sustainability are welcome.

  • We are looking for someone with the ability to work with autonomy and to drive EHS initiatives, along with excellent organizational and communication skills. This offers a great opportunity to develop further with a leading global patient-focused MedTech company.

  • Knowledge of Life Science or Medical Devices would be an advantage but is not essential
