As part of our R&D Engineering team, you will work closely with our Quality and Manufacturing teams to develop the latest tools and technologies to address significant, unmet clinical needs that impact patients’ lives around the world.

This is an exciting opportunity for an Engineer II to join Edwards Lifesciences Metals Center of Excellence (MCoE) and work with a dedicated team of engineers focused on providing expertise in development of medical device implants. As a subject matter expert within the MCoE, the Engineer II will advance the development of our metal fabrication processes. This role supports multiple business units to help build and design upcoming technologies and therapies. This is a highly visible position in which the engineer will be working side by side with industry leading experts.

How you’ll make an impact:

  • Optimize manufacturing processes, including using engineering methods (e.g., SIX Sigma and LEAN methods) for continuous process improvement and/or re-design/design of equipment, tools, fixtures, etc. to improve manufacturing processes, employing technical design skills.

  • Analyze and resolve moderately complex Manufacturing and Compliance issues (e.g., CAPA, non-conformances, audit observations)

  • Lead in improving, designing, and optimizing nitinol processing, analyzing results, providing recommendations, and developing reports based on engineering principles that translate to innovative products.

  • Present analysis results to stakeholders and contribute to publishing internal reports and technical summaries.

  • Proactively identify issues, achieve resolution, and resolve problems of significant complexity in designing parts, components, and subsystems.

  • Work in a cross-functional team environment and collaborate with R&D, NPD, Quality, Manufacturing, and Material Science groups to meet project objectives.

  • Create, test, and/or improve products and new systems by developing complex experiments and tests (including writing and executing protocols), analyze results, make recommendations, and develop reports, based on engineering principles.

  • Generate work instructions, test methods, engineering models and drawings/prototypes, etc., to establish/characterize product and/or process specifications.

  • Assign R&D support tasks; give instruction to technicians on conducting tests; train technicians and provide feedback; coordinate technician work.

  • Train, coach, and guide lower-level employees on routine procedures

What else we look for (Preferred

  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering or Scientific field with 2+ years of professional experience  - OR -

  • Master's Degree Engineering or Scientific field with internship, senior projects, or thesis in Engineering or Scientific field including either industry or industry/education

What else we look for (Preferred):

  • Experience/familiarity with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks or Creo)

  • Experience/familiarity with metals (Nitinol, Cobalt Chromium, Stainless Steel)

  • Knowledge in metals processing (laser cutting, shape setting, oxide removal, electropolishing)

  • Strong documentation, communication (e.g., written and verbal) and interpersonal relationship skills including consultative and relationship management skills

  • Basic understanding of statistical techniques

  • Previous experience working with lab/industrial equipment

  • Substantial understanding and knowledge of principles, theories, and concepts relevant to Engineering

  • Knowledge of and adherence to Edwards Environmental Health and Safety and Quality guidelines as they relate to department clean room medical device manufacturing

  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills

  • Proven expertise in usage of MS Office Suite

  • Good leadership skills and ability to influence change

  • Strict attention to detail

  • Ability to interact professionally with all organizational levels

  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast paced environment

  • Must be able to work in a team environment, including inter-departmental teams

  • Ability to interact with senior internal and external personnel on significant matters often requiring coordination between organizations

Aligning our overall business objectives with performance, we offer competitive salaries, performance-based incentives, and a wide variety of benefits programs to address the diverse individual needs of our employees and their families.

For California, the base pay range for this position is $85,000 to $120,000 (highly experienced).
