At Edwards Lifesciences, we are passionate about helping patients and have made this pursuit our life’s work. Not only do we innovate medical technologies to address unmet patient needs, but we also support philanthropic programs focused on increasing access to healthcare for underserved patient populations. Below are a few examples of such programs.
Patient Advocate Foundation (PAF) is a national non-profit organization with extensive experience in patient-focused case management. With the support of Edwards philanthropy, this organization provides a Heart Valve Financial Aid Fund that offers low-income heart valve patients a $1,000 grant to cover out-of-pocket expenses related to their valve care including transportation costs. We also support PAF’s Heart Valve CareLine that delivers free case management to heart valve patients experiencing barriers to care. Case managers provide assistance with insurance appeals, insurance benefits and reimbursement, Medicare, Medicaid and Disability screenings, enrollments and/or denials, options for addressing medical debt crisis, as well as referrals to local, state or federal financial resources. AmeriCares is an international non-profit relief and humanitarian aid organization that delivers medicines, medical supplies and aid to people in crisis around the world. Every year, Edwards Lifesciences donates thousands of our medical technologies to AmeriCares, including heart valves, critical care monitoring devices and cardiac surgery products. These technologies are donated to non-profit organizations and charitable medical missions providing cardiac services in some of the most impoverished parts of the world, where even basic medical care is often lacking.
Angel Flight West is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization that arranges free, non-emergency air travel for children and adults with serious medical conditions and other compelling needs. Its network of thousands of pilots throughout the western states donate their aircraft, piloting skills, and all flying costs to help families in need, enabling them to receive vital treatment that might otherwise be inaccessible because of financial, medical, or geographic limitations.
