Engineering technical development program (TDP)
Noted for diverse rotations that provide multi-product exposure, the 18-month Engineering TDP experience will accelerate your transition to a Technical Leadership career. You’ll complete four practical rotation assignments across various businesses and functions, all with a level of flexibility that allows you to shape your program path around your interests and goals. The program’s overall design ensures that you’ll develop a broad perspective of key technical and operational elements within Edwards through formal and informal training opportunities, interaction with senior leaders, and ongoing personal and professional mentorship.

The knowledge you acquire through the Engineering Technical Development Program will provide a strong foundation across the areas outlined below, positioning you for continued career success.
- Research & development: Your work in this area will include exposure to Research or New Product Development, a major focus at Edwards where ongoing investment in R&D means a steady pipeline of exciting new technologies and leading medical innovations. Under the guidance of senior R&D engineers, you’ll test, create, validate, and design in support of our products. It’s a great way to learn from experienced engineers while contributing your input and ideas to the project team.
- Manufacturing engineering or supervision: Gain valuable insight into manufacturing and operations through rotations such as facilitating product transfers or sustaining engineering projects, LEAN initiatives, or supervising a product line. Experience meaningful day-to-day interactions with both operators and engineers in a fast-paced environment. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as R&D, marketing, and quality, to transform concepts into production while improving efficiencies and solving problems.
- Quality, regulatory & clinical: Partner closely with R&D and Manufacturing engineers during early product design or support manufacturing production by facilitating quality improvements in a production setting. Learn about the latest advancements and practices as they relate to Quality & Regulatory through these functions: Quality Engineering, Quality Control, Quality Systems, Laboratory, or Regulatory Affairs.
- Marketing & business development: Learn the core competencies required for commercial success, such as Project Management, Physician Education, Branding, Competitive Strategy, and Clinical Differentiation.

Getting the most out of our Engineering Technical Development Program is in your hands. We’ll do a lot to help you succeed — that’s part of the Edwards culture and our commitment to new grads. But there are certain characteristics that will also contribute to your success at Edwards, such as leadership ability acquired through extracurricular activities, work experience, or internships. Analytical minds that can solve problems and those who collaborate effectively and communicate well have an edge. You’ll want to bring a passion for patients and technology, project management, and execution, as well as a global mindset.
We look for the following credentials in our Engineering TDP candidates:
- B.S. or M.S. in Engineering from an accredited university
- Anticipated Fall or Spring graduation date
- GPA of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale)
- Proof of U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency Authorization
In addition, we consider a broad range of engineering backgrounds, including Biomedical, Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Packaging, Industrial, Materials, Manufacturing, Quality, and Management.
Initial interviews are typically conducted on select university campuses during fall visits. This allows our managers, technical experts and program alumni to get a better sense of your talents and goals while helping you understand more about the program. To be considered, submit your resume to your campus career center in the Fall. Resume submission deadlines are typically one to two weeks after campus fairs. Even if you’re not a student at one of the universities we visit, we encourage you to apply through our website.
Finalists from our campus interviews are invited to our global headquarters in Irvine, California, to participate in a multi-interview process. Plus, candidates get to tour the facilities, meet current employees, and explore the beauty of Irvine and its surrounding communities. Offers are extended in November for either February or July start dates.
- September-October: Campus Visits & Interviews
- Late October: Invitations to attend Engineering New Grad Weekend
- Late November: Engineering New Grad Weekend
- By November 30: Completion of offers and follow-up communications
- February or July: First day of an exceptional Edwards career!
