COVID-19: Edwards' Response
March 26, 2020
Dear Trusted Partners and Patients:
On behalf of the more than 14,000 employees of Edwards Lifesciences, we would like to express our gratitude to the global healthcare community, particularly our clinician partners, for their dedication to serving patients during this challenging time. We appreciate the strong leadership and brave commitment on the front lines responding to this evolving situation with COVID-19.
Edwards’ focus, like others, is on taking many important steps to guard against the community spread of COVID-19. We are relying on trusted sources such as the World Health Organization (WHO), U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), governments and local hospital policies to inform our decision-making. We have implemented important measures to ensure the safety of our employees, while also continuing our critical work in providing life-saving technologies for patients.
We know that COVID-19 is deadly and is creating tremendous strain on the healthcare system globally. This strain differs dramatically in each community and clinicians around the world are faced with unprecedented challenges when it comes to patient care. We are proud to be a member of a critical health infrastructure and admire the agility and passion of Edwards’ employees in maintaining their important work during this challenging environment. Our team is dedicated to ensuring a global supply and providing real-time support for front-line clinicians at a time when it is needed most.
It is understandable that heart valve patients may have questions or concerns about treatment for valve disease during this evolving situation. As always, we encourage patients to consult with their physicians for guidance on their care and treatment. We are also aware that availability of our critical care technology is crucial for many patients during this time. I want to affirm that Edwards Lifesciences’ commitment to delivering high-quality technologies for patients is unwavering.
We recognize the important role and impact of our charitable partners in meeting both local and global community needs at this time. To respond to these needs, Edwards Lifesciences Foundation is immediately issuing grants to more than 20 partner organizations providing safety-net support in the communities where Edwards’ employees live and work around the world. Additionally, Edwards is providing donations of critical care technologies during this crisis to help underserved patients around the world. We will stay closely connected to our charitable partners to understand other ways we can help our communities.
The global community is facing unprecedented and unpredictable challenges. We are committed to working together with our clinician partners, employees, governments and communities to do what we can to address this global health crisis. And we remember our Credo, “Helping Patients is Our Life’s Work, and Life is Now.”
Please take care,
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
