The Edwards Lifesciences Fund

At Edwards Lifesciences, we are dedicated to providing innovative solutions for people fighting cardiovascular disease. Each day, more than 6,300 Edwards employees are working as trusted partners with customers, colleagues, and patients – creating a community unified in its mission to improve the quality of life around the world.

As part of this commitment, we provide philanthropic support for important health-related and community causes, and in 2004 established The Edwards Lifesciences Fund, a donor-advised fund managed through the Vanguard Charitable Endowment Program.

The Edwards Lifesciences Fund was established to support advancements in knowledge and improvements in quality of life, focusing primarily upon cardiovascular disease and the communities where our employees live and work. In order to receive a grant from The Edwards Lifesciences Fund, applicants must demonstrate 501(c)(3) tax status, and be public charities as defined by Section 509(a)(1), (2), or (3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Mission:

The Edwards Lifesciences Fund shall support advancements in knowledge and improvements in quality of life, focusing primarily upon cardiovascular disease and the communities where our employees live and work.

Goals & Objectives:

The goals and objectives of The Edwards Lifesciences Fund are to:
  • Expand awareness of cardiovascular disease, its prevention and treatment;
  • Enhance support and access to care for under-served cardiovascular patients;
  • Support research and education to increase expertise and innovation in treating cardiovascular disease;
  • Establish trusted partnerships to further leverage impact;
  • Support opportunities for Edwards and our employees to contribute to our communities;
  • Operate consistently with the principles of Edwards Lifesciences’ Credo.

Guidelines:
Each Edwards Lifesciences Fund grant must meet the criteria of one of the two grant categories. Before submitting an application for a grant, organizations must determine which grant category best applies to their program/project.

Strategic Grants:
Programs or projects funded in this category of giving must a) expand awareness of cardiovascular disease, its prevention and treatment and/or b) enhance support and access to care for under-served cardiovascular patients.  Additional consideration will be given to programs and projects that support research and education to increase expertise and innovation in treating cardiovascular disease or establish trusted partnerships to further leverage impact.

Community Grants:
Programs or projects funded in this category of giving must at a minimum provide opportunities for Edwards employee involvement through volunteerism and/or contributions, or provide a significant opportunity to strengthen the community and improve the quality of life as a result of Edwards’ involvement.  Additional consideration will be given to programs or projects that establish trusted partnerships to further leverage impact.

All applicants must demonstrate 501(c)(3) tax status.

Annual Grant Cycle:
Grantees of the 2009 Grant Cycle were announced on November 12, 2009. The 2010 grant cycle will open in May 2010.
