In July 2005, Denise, who was six-months pregnant with her third child, developed a persistent high fever, severe chills and a cough. She was admitted to the hospital and diagnosed with the most fatal form of Valley Fever. After weeks of hospitalization, Denise's condition worsened and, tragically, she lost her baby.
Her battle with this illness continued for another eight months, almost resulting in her death several times. During some of her most critical moments, her doctors chose to monitor her central venous oxygen saturation with Edwards' PreSep Oximetry Catheter. With the constant information provided by the PreSep Oximetry Catheter, Denise's doctors were armed with more information to intervene earlier and help guide her therapy.
Denise returned home to her husband and two children in March 2006. She is one of the few pregnant women to survive this form of Valley Fever. “I have a renewed sense of how precious life is and I'm able to be a mommy again,” said Denise, who now spends her days playing with her kids and making sure that her family knows how much she cherishes them.
“In addition to providing important hemodynamic perfusion information and patterns, Edwards' PreSep Oximetry Catheter remains a valuable intravascular access catheter for treating critical care patients like Denise,” said Herb Rogove, D.O., F.C.C.M., F.A.C.P.
