Seven years ago, when Marion Lee was being wheeled into the operating room for open-heart surgery, he asked the anesthesiologist, cardiac-thoracic surgeon and cardiologist to use the Edwards Swan-Ganz catheter. When they asked why, this top volume company salesman replied, "If something happens, I want you to have all the data you possibly can have -- wedge pressure, P.A. pressure, and cardiac output -- so you can better manage me if a crisis arises."

Upon awakening in ICU the next day, Lee's fuzzy eyes saw his surgeon waving the Swan-Ganz catheter over him and saying, "Hey, Marion, we put in one of your catheters, do we get paid now?"
For Marion, the story illustrates both the trust and respect he enjoys with his customers as one of our long time representatives, first in heart valves, then in critical care. "Edwards is well respected as a company that sells excellent products. I can walk right into the operating room in any hospital in Pittsburgh and they know who I am. I've been able to stay long enough to see us come up with technology that far surpasses what I was selling 20 years ago."
Edwards' representatives offer a clinical service to hospitals, according to Marion. "We're either in intensive care, coronary care or the operating room. And we're there by invitation. At times, I'm actually telling the doctor what the catheter will do. That's the exciting part. You feel like you're doing something to save a life."
